Oftentimes, hay fever, seasonal and perennial rhinitis, chronic sinusitis, laryngitis and sore throat are caused by allergies. Treatments for allergies that affect the ear, nose or throat include medications, immunotherapy (allergy shots) and/or education on how to avoid the pollen, dust mites or other allergens that are causing the symptoms.
Allergy Testing
The first line of treatment for allergy symptoms is typically through medical management with the use of antihistamines, steroidal and non-steroidal nasal sprays, and recommendations made for environmental control measures. If these methods are unsuccessful, your ENT physician may recommend allergy testing.
